Physical Disability T20 series set for Wankhede debut

India’s Physical Disability (PD) cricket teams will compete in a landmark T20 series from December 16 to 18 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, marking the first time the iconic venue hosts an international event for physically challenged cricketers. The series is being staged to promote inclusivity and give elite exposure to PD players on a global stage.
The three-day contest will feature India taking on an overseas opponent in multiple matches, with organisers expecting competitive games and strong public interest. Players have been in preparation camps for weeks, focusing on fitness, adaptability and match awareness to meet the demands of the shortest format.
“This is a proud moment for disability cricket in India,” a tournament official said, adding that playing at Wankhede “recognises the quality and dedication of these athletes.” India’s captain echoed the sentiment, stating, “Wearing the jersey at such a historic ground motivates us to perform at our best.”
Coaches believe the series will inspire future generations. “Visibility matters,” one support staff member noted. “When players see this level of respect, the sport grows.” The event is part of broader efforts to integrate disability cricket into mainstream calendars.
